Frequency of Monitoring Glycemic Control Indicators
ОглавлениеGenerally, hemodialysis patients visit a medical institution three times a week, such that opportunities to measure blood glucose levels are far more frequent than in non-dialysis patients. By taking advantage of this, it is possible to follow the blood glucose state more accurately. For patients using insulin, it is recommended [2] that blood glucose levels be measured with a blood glucose meter at the beginning and end of dialysis. For patients using oral hypoglycemic agents and whose blood glucose control is stable, predialysis blood glucose levels should be measured once a week. For patients who have good glycemic control with only diet therapy and without medication, predialysis blood glucose levels should be measured at least once a month. Dialysis patients with diabetes should undergo GA measurement once a month. Even in dialysis patients who do not have a history of diabetes, diabetes may develop shortly after initiation of dialysis or with aging and prolonged dialysis. Thus, it is recommended to measure predialysis blood glucose levels and GA values at least once a year as a screening test for new-onset diabetes [2].
