Anatomical Site

Оглавление

Immediately after birth (days 1 and 2) no intersite difference in the surface pH was disclosed [41]. In accordance, pH did not differ significantly between sites in the early neonatal period (day 3) [37]. At day 90 after birth, pH was higher on the cheek and buttock and lower on the forehead and forearm. Hence, exogenous factors, for example, the influence of climatic factors and diaper occlusion can influence pH differences observed with anatomical site variations. The decrease in pH in the neonatal period was impeded or delayed in the diapered (occluded) skin site [6]. At the end of the first month, pH was significantly higher in the diapered skin site in comparison to the more acidic non-diapered region. Similar differences were reported later in infancy (8–24 months) with significantly higher pH values at the buttocks versus volar forearm skin [1].
