A finger knocks at the window

ice flowers draw over the pane

that eyes cannot look through.

People sit inside

they speak and laugh

and do not hear the knocks.

Frost takes the finger from the window.

The body lies on the frozen ground

and a fine layer of ice covers the face and hands.

It was a child who did not close his eyes.

The rising sun gives the child a shining face.
