Detail Strip:

4. Drifting out the cross-pin at the top of the slide will release the extractor and its coil spring for removal upward. Note that an inner lug on the extractor retains the firing pin and its return spring, and both will be released inside the slide as the extractor is taken out. The dovetail-mounted rear sight can be drifted out, if necessary.

5. The recoil spring assembly can be taken apart by retracting the spring collar and removing the lock-piece. CAUTION:Control the spring.

6. Remove the grip screws, and take off the grip panels. Note that both have an undercut tab at the top, and must be lifted slightly at the lower end, then moved downward for removal.

7. Restrain the hammer, pull the trigger, and ease the hammer down to fired position. Remove the sear lever screw.

8. Move the trigger bar downward, and take off the sear lever.

9. Drift out the trigger cross-pin.

10. Move the trigger assembly rearward, then downward into the magazine well for removal.

11. Drifting out the cross-pin in the trigger will release the trigger bar and its plunger and spring. CAUTION:Control the parts as the drift is removed.

12. Drift out the sear cross-pin.

13. Tip the hammer to nudge it out, then remove the sear and hammer spring assembly into the magazine well.

14. Removing this nut will allow separation of the hammer spring and strut from the sear. CAUTION:Control the powerful spring. In normal takedown, this unit is best left in assembly.

15. Drift out the hammer cross-pin, and remove the hammer upward.

16. Drifting out this cross-pin will allow the ejector to be driven out of its dovetail upward. If it is not necessary to remove it for repair, leave it in place.

17. Removal of this small screw will allow the rear safety to be taken out. Note that this will release its small detent plunger and spring inside the frame. The screw head is often slightly swaged by the slide movement, making removal difficult. Inside the frame at the front, another small screw retains the heavy buffer spring. In both cases, it is best to leave these units in place.

18. Drift out the magazine catch limit pin.

19. Drift out the magazine catch pivot pin.

20. Remove the magazine catch and its spring.
