THE PRINCIPLES OF REIKI
ОглавлениеIt must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goals. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach for. It is not a calamity to die with dreams unfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream. It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideals, but it is a disaster to have no ideals to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. ~Benjamin Elijah Mays
In 1944 the President of Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia, Dr Benjamin Elijah Mays, was asked by the father of a student to inspire his teenage son to dream. Mays handed the student the above quote and told him if he read it every day it would have a profound effect on his life. That teenage student was Martin Luther King Jnr.
Just as the above quote moulded the life of Martin Luther King Jnr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the System of Reiki, believed that the Reiki Ideals would do the same for you.
Usui advised his students that “the way to invite happiness through many blessings” is to place your hands in Gassho (prayer position at the chest) every morning and night and recite the Reiki Ideals.
When Mikao Usui taught Reiki to his students, the Reiki Ideals or Principles formed the greatest part of his teachings. It remains unclear as to the origins of the Ideals but they continue to be an essential part of Reiki Tradition.
On the following page of your journal write the Reiki Ideals or Principles that you were given by your Reiki Master. If you don’t have a copy of them, here are the Ideals given to me by my Reiki I and 2 Master, Kevin Duff.
THE REIKI IDEALS
Just for today don’t anger, accept.
Just for today don’t worry, accept.
Just for today count your blessings and be grateful.
Just for today do an honest day’s work and earn your livelihood without hurting anyone.
Just for today be kind to every single living thing.
Over the next three weeks we will be exploring the deeper meaning of these principles.
