God Works Within Us

Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us.

—Ephesians 3:20

We were born to do the work God called us to do. Sometimes, we aren't sure what the work is. Sometimes we are afraid to check in with God about our work for fear that the assignment will be too hard or perhaps seem too easy. We think about the way we work for God with the same energy we think about the work we do at the office, or the work we do at home. With God, the definition may be slightly different, though.

Look at what George McDonald shared about this idea. "Do you think the work God gives us to do is never easy? Jesus says His yoke is easy, His burden is light. People sometimes refuse to do God's work just because it is easy. This is sometimes because they cannot believe that easy work is His work."

In other words, don't assume that you aren't doing God's work simply because you're not building houses for Habitat, or teaching in a mission field. Your ministry may well be to offer hope and encouragement to one special person in your family or in your church. Your work may be to keep pointing the way to God in gentle and affirming ways.

Today, listen for his voice and seek to answer. Do his work with great joy!
