Story

It was the summer holidays, and 15-year-old Alex was looking for something exciting to do. His parents had always told him that it was important to gain some work experience before finishing school, and this year, Alex had decided to take their advice seriously. After weeks of searching, he finally landed his first job at a local coffee shop.

«I can’t believe it,» Alex said to his friend Ben, as he stood in front of the coffee shop. «Today’s my first day at work!»

«You’ll do great, Alex!» Ben replied. «You’ve always wanted to work in a coffee shop, right?»

Alex smiled nervously. «Yeah, but I’m a little scared. What if I mess up? What if I don’t know what to do?»

«Don’t worry,» Ben said. «You’ve got this. Just follow the instructions, and everything will be fine.»

Alex took a deep breath and walked inside the shop. He was greeted by his new boss, Maria, who was a friendly woman in her thirties. «Hi, Alex!» she said, shaking his hand. «Welcome to the team! Let me show you around.»

Maria introduced Alex to the other workers, including Lily, who was going to be his training buddy. Lily was a few years older and had been working at the coffee shop for a while. «Don’t worry, Alex. I’ll show you everything,» she said with a smile.

Alex was given his first task: to take orders at the counter and make simple drinks like coffee and tea. He watched Lily as she prepared drinks and learned how to use the coffee machine. At first, everything seemed complicated. There were so many different drinks to remember, and Alex felt nervous about making a mistake.

But with Lily’s help, Alex started to get the hang of it. «Can I have a large cappuccino?» a customer asked. Alex felt a little nervous but smiled and said, «Sure! One cappuccino coming right up.»

He carefully followed the steps: grind the coffee, steam the milk, and pour the perfect cappuccino. The customer smiled when Alex handed the drink to him. «This is great! Thank you!» the customer said.

By the end of the day, Alex had made several coffees, served pastries, and taken orders. He had even handled a few difficult customers, and although it was tiring, he felt proud of himself. «I can’t believe I did it,» Alex said to Lily as they cleaned up at the end of the shift. «I was so nervous this morning.»

«You did awesome,» Lily said. «It’s normal to feel nervous at first. But look at you now – you’re a pro!»

Alex smiled. «I think I’m starting to enjoy this. I feel like I’ve learned a lot today.»

The next day, Alex woke up excited for his second day at work. «I can’t wait to go back,» he thought. «I’m ready for whatever comes next.»
