The Research

Оглавление

Although I feel strongly from my own personal experiences that blended learning has the potential to make a positive impact on teaching and learning in the classroom, there is more than just anecdotal evidence to support this practice.

Blended learning is no silver bullet, and it can be implemented poorly. However, when carried out with efficacy and an intentional focus on improving instruction, it can lead to incredible academic achievement. Here are some links to research and case studies that bear witness:

Blended Learning Success Case Studies. The Clayton Christensen Institute partnered with the Evergreen Education Group to publish twelve case studies of traditional school districts that experienced improved academic performance with the implementation of blended learning. I recommend checking out these case studies, as they follow school districts around the country with varied demographics, approaches, and goals. You can find links to each in the article “Proof Points: Blended Learning Success in School Districts” available at bit.ly/proofpts or by scanning the QR code.

Blended Learning Universe. The Blended Learning Universe website (blendedlearning.org/research) has an extensive repository of research around blended learning, along with other design tools to help you as you begin to implement online learning into your classroom.

Clayton Christensen Institute. The Clayton Christensen Institute’s focus on disruptive innovation has led to a great deal of research on the power of blended learning. The Institute’s website (bit.ly/CCIresearch) houses hundreds of examples of blended and personalized learning research done around the world.

The Learning Accelerator: Blended & Personalized Learning at Work. The Learning Accelerator is a nonprofit organization that focuses on innovation in the classroom. Its Blended & Personalized Learning at Work website (bit.ly/LAblended) has several tools and resources to help teachers understand how to implement personalization and competency-based learning in their classrooms. One powerful portion of the website includes several profiles of schools across the United States and their particular strategies for innovating in the classroom. This is a great website to explore to find examples of blended learning in action.
