Time and Place

Оглавление

Finally, a blended learning environment allows students to gain some control over the time and place of their learning. When we move some instruction online, students are no longer bound by the four walls of the classroom. We, as teachers, can remove ourselves as the sole agent of knowledge in the classroom. Students can continue learning any place and at any time—and teachers can provide instruction at any time. As I shared in Chapter 1, incorporating online lessons into the structure of the school day meant that I could continue teaching even if I was at home. All I needed was my laptop or phone and access to the digital learning environment where some of my instruction was housed.

We will take a closer look at tools to provide students control over pace, path, time, or place in Chapters 3 and 4. For now, take some time to consider what a good first step might be for your particular students. In what areas are you wanting to give students more autonomy? What aspects of your classroom currently require the most structure to help your students be successful?
