USING BEADS

Оглавление

When working with beads, these need to be threaded onto the yarn before starting to crochet the pieces. To thread the beads onto the yarn, start by threading a sewing needle with sewing thread, making sure the chosen needle used will easily pass through the beads! Knot the thread ends, to form a loop of sewing thread, and slip the cut end of the yarn through this loop. Thread a bead onto the needle, and then gently slide it along the sewing thread and onto the yarn. Continue in this way until the required number of beads are on the yarn.

As the crochet is worked, the beads on the yarn should be moved along the yarn away from the work until they are needed. However, as repeatedly sliding many beads along a delicate yarn can damage the yarn, it is a good idea to thread the beads on in groups of no more than about 200–300 at a time. Once these beads have been used, break the yarn, thread on the same number again, and re-join the yarn.

To work a beaded crochet stitch—either a double crochet or a chain stitch—start by sliding a bead up along the yarn so that it sits right next to the last stitch worked. Insert the hook and make the next stitch in the normal way, leaving the bead sitting at the back of the work.

When shaping the edges (such as for an armhole or neck) of a beaded section, take care not to place a bead on the end stitch of a row as this could make it difficult to attach this section to any other section it needs to be seamed to later.
