Motifs

Оглавление

Some of the designs in this book are made up of lots of small motifs that are joined together to form the finished item and there is often a diagram that will show how these motifs are to be joined.

When working a motif, the tension section will often state the size one finished motif should be, as it is not possible to give a stitch and row tension. It is vitally important this motif size is matched exactly if the item is to fit.

Where an item is made up of motifs, the pattern instructions will normally state what shape one motif should be when completed, and give details of what there is around the outer edge of this first motif. Once the first motif has been worked, look closely at the motif to check that it is worked correctly and identify the features mentioned.

Motifs are usually joined to each other as the last round is worked and the pattern will explain exactly where these joining points should be, and how the motifs should be joined. Join the motifs while working this last round by holding the motif being worked and the one it is to be joined to with their wrong sides together and work the joining stitch as detailed in the pattern. The motifs should be joined following the diagram that shows how the motifs fit together, making sure that any extra joining points required (as detailed in the written instructions) are followed to complete the item.
