Making tool shafts

Оглавление

Making tools is something everyone can do, and I believe it’s the best way to get totally involved in the making process. The general steps you will use when creating a turning tool aren’t hard to follow, either.

1 Cut the steel to the length you want with a hacksaw and grind the end of the rod to receive a drill bit.

2 Using a standard twist drill bit, drill a hole where you want it in the end of the bar to match the size of your high-speed cutting tip.

3 Grind your cutting tip in half on the edge of the grinder (now you have two tips) and shape the ends.

4 Glue one tip into the hole in the bar. Save the other for another tool.

5 Turn a handle, drill a hole in the end, and glue in the shaft.

6 Tie a ferrule around the end of the handle.

7 Sharpen the tip of the cutter, and you’re ready to go.
