MATERIALS

1 live-edge slab of your

choice, size will vary

2 pieces of walnut

1-in. wide and cut to

the width of your slab

The board I used for this design came from a walnut tree at my

childhood home in northwest Ohio. My stepfather cut the slab with

a chainsaw, and the wood itself has a beautiful rustic look I love.

I love the way the heartwood transitions to sapwood. And while

I removed the bark so that it wouldn’t flake off or collect bacteria

over time, I retained the look of a live edge.
