This is a clinical term referring to any symptoms that arise when one’s assigned gender/sex doesn’t match with felt experience. This is the term used in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Some advocates believe the inclusion is essential to advocate for medical coverage for treatment. Others believe it creates a false sense of pathology. The term might be helpful for some, but not all.
