This is the preferred umbrella term for all genders other than female/male or woman/man. Non-binary individuals might define their gender as falling somewhere on the spectrum between man and woman or as wholly different from those ideas. Some also use the term “gender queer.” Another non-binary identity is “genderfluid” when gender identity or expression shifts and changes over time.
