Arm yourself with an Ordnance Survey (OS) map and a puncture repair kit and head out into the region’s network of bridlepaths, disused railway lines, forest tracks, country lanes and towpaths. Once out of the vacuum-pack of your car, you start to notice the small things, and soon you’ll feel sorry for anyone travelling over 30 miles per hour.
