Оглавление12…HE SET ME FREE
Good morning! “And the truth shall set you free” is a phrase most of us have heard many times, but did you know that it is more than a common phrase? It’s actually Scripture. We find it in John 8:32 through Jesus’ own words. “... and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” You know, sometimes life is just messy. We want to live in perfect harmony, but that’s not always the case. We want everyone to just be nice and kind, but that doesn’t always happen either. And then you turn on the news and wonder what’s wrong with people. Sometimes we just want someone to answer the question, “How did this life get so crazy???”
As I was searching to find the scripture about how truth can set us free, I found the answer to how things got so crazy. Earlier in John 8, a woman was brought to Jesus who had been caught in adultery. The Scribes and the Pharisees said that in the Law Moses had commanded them to stone such a woman. They were testing Jesus to see what He would say. It was in Jesus’ response that I found the answer to why everything has gotten so crazy. In verse 7, Jesus said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” And there’s our answer to explain why...sin. We live in a fallen, sinful world, and as a result, things like heartache and disappointment are just a natural byproduct of sin. As the story of the adulteress woman continued, no stones were thrown because none present were without sin. In verse 34 Jesus says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.” Being a slave to sin is true bondage. But the good news is that we don’t have to stay in that condition because the truth that sets us free is found in Jesus. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, believing in who He is and what He did to set us free from the bondage of sin, we are forever freed from the penalty of sin. And when Jesus sets us free, we are free indeed!!
Jesus, thank You for setting me free! Please help me share that freedom with others. Amen.
