16…THE NORM

Good morning! As I looked at the weather forecast for the rest of the week, it was clear that we are now starting to experience some winter weather. It’s predicted that the low temperatures will be in the 20’s and the high temperatures only in the 30’s and 40’s. There’s even a chance for some snow flurries. What cracks me up about that forecast is listening to people talk about it. We are in the month of December, after all, and these temperatures are what we are supposed to have this time of year in our part of the country. We’ve just been blessed with unusually warmer weather in the past weeks, so those warmer temperatures were the anomalies, not the temperatures forecasted for the rest of this week. Sometimes we just forget what the “normal” should be. This also happens in our Christian walk. Staying conscious of the Lord’s presence should be our normal, but all too often we are like Jacob in Genesis 28:16 where he said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”

Let me give you an example. I requested prayer for a couple of friends of mine. My friend had taken her husband to the ER the day before and they admitted him for observation. As she stayed with him in the hospital, she started feeling really bad. She was having a lot of pain in her right side and spiked a fever of 102.9. So, they sent her to the ER and the next morning she had her appendix removed. Should we be astonished that she was in the right place to get the care she needed at the right time? That was not an anomaly. The Lord is always with us and He orchestrates our life according to His plan, so there was no coincidence about my friend being at the hospital when her appendix decided it needed to come out. That was all God. That’s just what He does. My prayer for us is that we strive to always be aware of the Lord’s presence in our lives and to be thankful that He chooses being with us as the norm!

Jesus, thank You for always working things out for our best and for Your glory. And thank You for wanting to always be with us. Amen.
