Michael Andrick Empty success Philosophy for the world of work

To be successful in the world of work, ambition and focus are required. Questions about the wider meaning and significance of human pursuits have no place in the workplace.

Industrial society can mould human beings into bland, interchangeable functionaries. They then exercise the same dull professionalism in banking as in the manufacture of bombs.

What are the origins of this »world of workplaces« that we inhabit? How does it function? Why are we at the same time fascinated, enthralled, and stultified by ambition? Why should we resist the takeover and domination of our entire life by our career? How can philosophy enable us to maintain our own, personal way of life amidst the all-engulfing conformism of industrialized existence? These are the questions of this philosophy for the world of work.
