These procedures may seem a little strange, but they do have an important function. We often process many of our feelings through our dreams. Rapid eye movement (REM) is the brain’s way of clearing and sorting through many of the trials and tribulations that occur during waking hours. This can be observed during REM sleep. In moving the eyes in this exercise we recreate the brain’s natural processing action. NLP creators, Richard Bandler and John Grinder, observed that we store different types of information in different areas of the brain. Our thoughts, memories, feelings, sensations, sounds and visual images all have their individual storage areas in the brain. These different mental functions can be accessed by means of certain eye positions. You may have noticed the particular eye movements people make when trying to remember a piece of information or when describing a physical sensation. Quite often people look in different directions when they are retrieving or tuning in to internal processes. Within EFT, rotating the eyes initiates a balancing action within the various parts of the brain. It also addresses and clears the different thoughts, memories and feelings that contribute to a problem.
