Proper hand position

Оглавление

Consider the way you hold the pen in your hand. It should be no different to the way you would usually hold a writing pen to ensure you use it in a way in which you feel most comfortable. Once the pen is in your hand, you should be able to rest the edge of your palm lightly on the surface to be burned (or the table if it is a smaller item). The pen nib should meet the surface in a natural diagonal position: if you are holding the pen almost perpendicular to the surface with your hand away from the surface, you may not be able to control the marks you make very well. This would probably result in uneven lines and areas that are heavily burned by pressing too hard with a jabbing motion, rather than a smooth flowing movement.

Rest the heel of your palm on the wood or your work surface as you burn to ensure that your pen is steady and reduce the chance of making mistakes.
