Understanding profits in a capitalistic economy implies to understand market relationships, which were analyzed by Marx through a labor theory of value. Firstly, this chapter shows that within Marx’s books there is a contradiction in the use of the concept “value”. Sometimes it means “human labor in general” but in other books it means “money”; secondly, this chapter shows that labor theory of value explained by Marx is not complete because of incongruences in the value concept; thirdly, this research establishes that at present the labor theory of value is not a convenient approach to propose a good economic theory different from neoclassical, because an alternative economic theory needs a monetary circuit which relates theory of trade and the explanation of capitalistic economy.
