THEME TUNE
ОглавлениеWhen you hear the Eastenders or Neighbours theme tunes, you know immediately what you’re going to see on screen following the opening credits. You may not be anywhere near a TV, but if you hear the theme tune played on the radio or in a bar it will still cause you to think of the show and its characters and storylines. Your goal is to create a catchy tune that sticks in people’s heads and makes them think of your vlog as soon as they hear it.
When it comes to music, you need to be aware of copyright. You can’t just pick an obscure song from one of your favourite artists and edit it into your next video, as you’ll be violating usage rights. If you’re musical, you may want to create something yourself. If you’re not, the easiest option is to use YouTube’s audio library. This is a massive database of free music and sound effects.
You can find the audio library by logging into YouTube and selecting the Creator Studio menu. Click on Create and you’ll see a link for Audio Library. There you will see options for free music, ad-supported music and sound effects. Ad-supported music means that ads will play before your video when you use one of these songs, and the ad revenue will be given to the artist who made the track. In general, it’s not a good idea to choose ad-supported music, as you want to monetise your videos with your own ads.
It’s best to make use of YouTube’s free music when making a theme tune, but be aware that you can’t always use it without any attribution. If you see a circular symbol with a person standing in it to the left of the popularity bar and the download link, you need to make sure you mention the author of the song somewhere in the video or the description box when you upload the vlog to YouTube. Usually, there will be a full description of what attribution you need to give when you click on the song file’s name.
Take your time picking a piece of music. If you settle for the first thing you hear, you may be missing something better. YouTube’s audio library is vast, so have fun exploring it. Just make sure you keep a list so you can easily go back to songs you like. Ask friends and your target market for feedback once you’ve made a shortlist. After all, they’re going to be listening to it a lot when your vlogging career takes off and you start to make several videos a week.
