What do you want?
ОглавлениеWhat do you really want your marriage to be like? Do you want one that is strong, healthy, vibrant, supportive, beneficial, encouraging and loving? If you are engaged, what images come to your mind when you think about being married? You are probably picturing a relationship that you enjoy. You are probably thinking about a marriage that is marked by mutual love, respect, trust, support and encouragement. No one wants a marriage that is full of conflict, arguments and strife. We all want our marriage to be a place that is safe emotionally. We want to look forward to coming home after a hard day at work, being greeted by someone who loves you and then spending time with that person. No one wants to have a marriage that fails. We all want a marriage that will make us happy. We all want a great marriage. If you want to have an average one like everyone else, just do what everyone else does. But if you want a great marriage, you need to do something more.
A great marriage is not one that is problem or conflict free. It is one where both spouses are committed to each other, love being with each other and know how to serve each other in a way the other person appreciates. A great marriage takes work because it starts with two messed up people who each have lots of problems and issues. A great marriage is one where grace and forgiveness are given to each other liberally. When challenges hit a great marriage, the couple is able to weather the storm because they trust each other and recognize that they can prayerfully problem solve together. I believe that a great marriage is something everyone can have, but the key is to continually monitor the quality of your connection and then turn it up.
