Marrying your soul-mate does not mean you will have a strong connection

Оглавление

Some people think that only others that are special or blessed can enjoy a great marriage, or that it all comes down to finding the right person. Nothing could be further from the truth. I do not believe in the concept of a soul-mate. As I understand the way the term is used today, a soul-mate is the one person who is perfectly suited for you. Once you find them, you have it made in the shade! You will never fight or quarrel! When you marry your soul-mate, you will not have to work at your relationship or ever have to ask the connection question. However, marriage is the collision and blending of two people with different ideas, dreams, values, personalities, likes and dislikes. Marriage takes compromise, understanding and the willingness to yield your point of view and embrace that of your spouse. Marriage is challenging and takes effort, but it is worth it.

I do believe, as we surrender our lives to God, that he leads us and gives us his best. When I was single, I asked God to give me the best wife and I believe he did. Over the years, Carrie and I have invested a lot of time and energy into the quality of our connection. This investment has paid great dividends and I am more in love with her now than ever. Second only to sending his son to die on the cross for me, the greatest gift God has given me is my marriage to Carrie. She is loving, kind, beautiful -inside and out- and also wise. She is not perfect and neither am I. We are both flawed; broken human beings who need Jesus to save us. We are both in the process of growth and God is continuing his good work in each of us.
