If you have reservations, don’t do it! This is the maxim of the Copenhagen lawyer and art collector Leif Djurhuus, who has been devoid of doubt roughly 2 000 times, the number of works in his collection. Since he does not own a private museum, they are stored in a warehouse. A selection of 200 works was exhibited from August 2011 to January 2012 at the Aros Aarhus Art Museum. Showcased were pieces by the 1960s Danish avant-garde, such as Poul Gernes or Sven Dalsgaard. The collection also includes international sky-rocketers like Robert Kusmirowski or Kendell Geers, along with plenty of young artists from all over the world. What interests Djurhuus is cutting-edge, border-crossing, provocative young art. If you make an appointment with him, Djurhuus will show you his collection wherever it is being exhibited.

PETER IBSEN COLLECTION

Minimalist works that hone your sense for detail

Collector:

Peter Ibsen

Peter Ibsen randomly collected art he liked for ten years. That is until the founder of the Copenhagen Contemporary art blog came across a black, checkerboard-like work by Gregor Hildebrandt—one that defied his powers of interpretation, making it impossible to put out of his mind. Ibsen decided to break from his past: he sold off his collected works and set himself a strict focus going forward. Since then, he has concentrated on monochrome and minimalist works by a viable number of artists he shows in his private home. Ibsen—who also co-curates the Code Art Fair in Copenhagen—often promotes young artists starting out in their careers. In addition to Hildebrandt, his collection includes works by Sergej Jensen, André Butzer, Sam Moyer, and Ethan Cook, among others. “I enjoy the fact that when there is less to see, you have to look a little harder,” is how Ibsen explains his fondness for the “non-colors” black, white, and gray.
