A very smart inmate made a request to be locked in his cell. He was to be released in a few days. He heard that the Natives were after him. He wanted to be locked in his cell until he was released to prevent being assaulted or robbed. An inmate's last few days are very dangerous. Everyone is like a pack of wolves trying to get that person’s belongings. The best intimidator or the one delivering a few good blows to show they mean business is the one most likely to acquire the items they want.

Two days later, the inmate stopped the first watch sergeant to reaffirm his position and said, “Make sure I stay top locked in the morning.”

The sarge said, “Why do you want to stay top locked?”

The inmate said he didn’t want any trouble and wanted to play it safe.
