It was feeding time in B-West. It was during double bunking when the inmates came down to the flag to get their meals. An inmate received a hot tray of food that was not to his liking. He was known to be violent, assaultive and an enforcer for the Natives. He was refusing to take the tray.

“The chicken on that tray is burned. I want a different tray.”

An officer in the area said, “Take what you are given and move along.”

“You better know who you are messing with. Don’t go getting smart with the wrong guy. You better stop talking shit.”

“Keep moving.”

The inmate kept repeating to him, “Find out who you are messing with.”

The officer kept watching him. The inmate was giving him the “evil eye.” They kept eye contact with each other until the inmate stepped into his cell.

This tactic worked on some officers, but not this one. The officer locked him in his cell and wrote a report.
