Chapter 28

Verses 1-2

“The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God.”

The LORD changes His focus to the prince of Tyrus who was a leader of great renown and nobility. He is referred to as “prince” because his behavior, as well as his rulings were directly influenced by a dark evil spiritual kingdom and powerful principality known as the King of Tyrus. The nations of the earth depended upon Tyrus and this great leader was the bread basket to their existence. This once glorious nation had leaders who in times past, served the God of Abraham when they were small and ignoble. In 1 Kings 5:7, Hiram a leader who once governed Tyre acknowledged the Sovereignty of GOD as the verse states: “When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the LORD today, who has given to David a wise son over this great people” (NASB). Hiram blessed the LORD, and declared His goodness. Noticed he said “Blessed be the LORD today.” This salutation ran much deeper than formality because Hiram was kin to David and Solomon, being the son of a widow from the tribe of Naphtali, the sixth son of Jacob by Rachel’s handmaiden Bilhah (1 Kings 7:13-14). As time went by and the city-state became a famous transshipment port, their succeeding leaders forgot the LORD and boasted in the abundance of their wares, the snare that led to their ultimate destruction.

When Tyrus sustained the last and fatal blow to its economy, Hiram was already dead. Important information found in the Word of God gives us timelines proving that Tyrus was already in a state of apostasy when their destruction came. Solomon
