a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” Yeshua Jesus warns that those who save their life will lose it and those who lose their life for Him, their life would be restored (Matthew 16:25). Do not be afraid of death; it is not the way we die that matters to the Lord, but the life we live! To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Verses 20-23

“And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her. For I will send into her pestilence and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.”

It was now time for Tyre’s Phoenician sister city Zidon (Sidon), to come under the scrutiny of the LORD. This chief city is located approximately twenty-five miles north of Tyrus. The Zidonians were the descendants of the sons of Canaan who settled near the coastland (see Genesis 10:15; 1 Chronicles 1:13). What else do we know about these people and what could they have done to have caused the Lord to rebuke them? The Zidonians were idolaters and the wisest man who ever lived, King Solomon, fell into idolatry by worshipping Ashtoreth their goddess (1 Kings 11:5a), thereby breaking the first of the commandments. In the New Covenant, Ashtoreth is called the queen of heaven, the Virgin Mary, the blessed mother among other names. Ashtoreth is the goddess of war and pornography, and many tribes of Israel participated in the worship of this strange idol. Jeremiah a prophet of God spoke out against such worship by the mouth of the Lord in chapter 44:13-23. Although Israel was rebuked by the prophet, they stubbornly continued to worship Ashtoreth the chief deity of the Zidonians.

The city of Zidon fell under the judgment of Abba Father because they polluted the worship of His people. For their idolatry, the city of Zidon was judged and plagues, war, and carnage overtook them. Israel and Judah were also punished for worshiping the god Ashtoreth. As Yeshua condemns certain cities for their unbelief
