Flexible pad sander
ОглавлениеThese small, inexpensive sanders are ideal for sanding the outside faces of bowls, both straight- and curve-sided. Chucked into a drill press, they allow solid, two-hand control of the bowl. While you can also use these sanders for bowl interiors, you’re better off using a round inflatable sander unless you’re sanding a wide, shallow bowl. I find the 2” (51mm) pad the most versatile—large enough for efficient wood removal, but small enough for accurate sanding of contoured surfaces. The 3” (76mm) pad is much more aggressive; I use it for quick wood removal where maneuverability is not an issue. Sanding discs, available in plain and scalloped versions, attach easily with a hook-andloop system that makes changing grits a snap. The standard density pad is the only type you’re likely to need, although softer auxiliary pads that attach to the sander in the same way as the discs are available if you want to refine the surface without altering its shape.
