9. Continuity of Practice – the Secret to Success

To free yourself from mental suffering, maintain mental comfort, and achieve perfect balance in both body and mind, daily Vipassana meditation for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening is recommended.

To achieve significant results in Vipassana meditation, the phrase «Continuity of Practice – the Secret to Success» is best understood literally: strive to maintain a meditative state 24 hours a day.

During sleep, the human subconscious actively monitors the situation. If a mosquito lands on a sleeping person, without waking up, the person will kill the mosquito with his hand and continue sleeping.

Similarly, the subconscious can control complete balance in the body and the breathing process during sleep. Therefore, a person’s strong determination to maintain a meditative state 24 hours a day significantly influences the subconscious and forms unconscious habits that contribute to maintaining complete balance in the body during sleep.

When a person sleeps, the mind is inactive. This means treating any bodily sensations that arise during sleep with nonjudgment. This is precisely what Vipassana meditation requires.

Maintaining perfect balance in the body is accompanied by a feeling of comfort in both the body and mind. Therefore, during sleep, a person unconsciously strives to maintain a feeling of comfort in the body. This desire helps maintain a meditative state while falling asleep and during sleep.

Before sleep, you can set yourself the goal of maintaining a meditative state while falling asleep, as well as during sleep and upon awakening. The subconscious will strive to fulfill this intention of consciousness.

At any opportune moment, for example, in transport, you can begin Vipassana meditation… Keep your neck straight and your eyes half-closed. Achieve a state of perfect balance in the body and a state of complete balance in the mind. Focus your attention on your breath… Cool air when inhaling, warm air when exhaling. Cool air when inhaling, warm air when exhaling… Focus your attention on the sensations throughout your body and you will have begun Vipassana meditation.

If a person enters any life situation from a state of Vipassana meditation, he acts most effectively.
