Borders with Mitered Corners
ОглавлениеThese borders take a bit more time but give a professional finish to your quilt.
| Determine the length and width of your quilt top by measuring from center top to center bottom and from center side to center side.
| Cut border pieces to these measurements plus twice the width of the border plus approximately 2 inches (5 cm) extra for the seam allowance.
| Pin a border strip to the quilt edge, matching the strip center to the quilt edge center. Allow the excess border fabric to extend beyond each end.
| Stitch to the quilt edge using an exact ¼-inch (0.75-cm) seam allowance, starting and finishing ¼ inch (0.75 cm) from the corner.
| Repeat with the remaining borders. Press the seam allowances toward the borders.
| To form the miters, lay the quilt wrong side up and then either press the borders (opposite page, left), match the folds, pin, and stitch, finishing at the inner corner; or overlap the corners (opposite page, right) and place the 45-degree line of your rotary ruler on the raw edge of the border. Pencil a line from the border seam to the outside edge. Overlap the adjacent border and mark again.
| With right sides together, match the drawn lines, pin, and stitch along the marked line (opposite page, bottom).
| Check the right side and then trim to ¼ in (0.75 cm). Press this seam allowance open. Whichever method you choose, repeat on the remaining three corners.
