Basting

Оглавление

Basting is necessary to hold the three layers securely together all over the quilt so that the fabrics don’t wrinkle when quilted. You can baste with either thread or safety pins.

1 | When using thread, take long pieces of thread, start in the middle, and baste out to the edge in rows in both directions, as in the diagram.

2 | When using safety pins, place them all over the quilt at intervals no greater than a hand’s width in any one direction. Use short, fine, rust-free pins to avoid permanently marking the quilt.

3 | Instead of using safety pins, you can use a basting gun to shoot short plastic tags through the quilt.
