Word, meaning, content

Оглавление

A word is a word, no more and no less. It is merely a linguistic tool to enable us to communicate with one another. A word is like a vessel we can fill with many different things. You can see this when you look at how some words have not changed at all, but their meaning has altered considerably over time. One reason could be, for example, that different age groups or people from different walks of life will ascribe different meanings to the same word.

The meaning of a word is the sense we wish to convey with it, and so it is possible that the same word means one thing in the north of a country and another thing in the south or that a particular group of people has assigned a completely different sense to a word than another group. This shows us that the meaning of a word correlates directly to the consciousness of the speaker.

This is why we need to pay attention not only to what is said to us, but also to the person who says it.

The content of a word is a little more difficult to define. The actual content of our words originates from our subconscious and we are usually not even aware of it. The content of what we say carries our subconscious intentions, motivations or aims.

An example: When someone says, “I love you”, this could mean:

 I love you

 I need you

 I’m in love with you

 I find you irresistible

 I think you are cool

 I can’t live without you

You have (are) exactly what I always wanted

We should have a good look at what we say, and what messages it might subconsciously contain. Often, we may find unpleasant intentions, wishes and thoughts hidden there.

It is interesting to note that we adopt our vocabulary in part or even in total from other people or groupings of people. So-called academics, for instance, will have a different vocabulary to other social strata. This is where the famous specialist jargon comes from.

The true content is the inner hold given to us by God.

Specialist jargon is not only used by people working in particular professions, but also by those doing, wanting, feeling and thinking the same. A collective consciousness leads to a collective terminology and a collective language.

It is a fact that we humans talk the way we think, feel and want. We tend to verbalize, usually without being aware of it, what we are. Your mouth speaks what your heart overflows with. So, if you want to get to know and understand yourself, take a good look at the words you use and the way you use them!
