1.1 Glosario del tema

Al abordar el estudio de una materia en un idioma que no es el nativo del estudiante, es imprescindible familiarizarlo con los términos que se vayan a ir manejando en el tema correspondiente. La mejor manera de realizarlo es a través de la elaboración de un glosario como catálogo alfabetizado de las palabras y expresiones de textos que son difíciles de comprender, junto con su significado o algún comentario. El glosario cumple una doble función: identifica el término en inglés para el conocimiento del estudiante y sitúa al estudiante desde el principio en el epicentro del tema, puesto que entra en contacto con conceptos jurídicos que luego tendrá que ir manejando con soltura.

La idea es involucrar al estudiante en la elaboración del glosario pese a que no pueda tener todavía ningún conocimiento de las instituciones, pero se trata de ir “adivinando” el significado de los términos. De nada sirve proporcionar al alumno la lista de términos y su definición para que el alumno lo estudie posteriormente puesto que todos sabemos que esta es una tarea estéril.

El siguiente cuadro es un ejemplo de cómo se realizaría la actividad de glosario con la participación de los alumnos:

Otra de las actividades relacionadas con el glosario de cada lección es la utilización de los términos aprendidos insertados en un texto de carácter legal, de manera que el estudiante empiece a asumir el significado de los mismos en el contexto jurídico concreto.

Un ejemplo de dicha actividad sería el siguiente:

PROCEDURE ON ARREST AND READING OF RIGHTS
