COMMON EXERCISE REGIMENS
ОглавлениеSince 2004 and the first edition of this book, training has moved away from gyms and machine training and into studios, focusing on functional, varied bodyweight-centered training. A whole bunch of branded regimens have appeared in the past years, some as short-term fads and some as longer-term trends. Gyms, in turn, have responded by offering some of these branded regimens within their facilities—for example, an indoor cycling studio, CrossFit box (gym), barre, yoga, or Pilates classes within the gym. Some gyms have even created their own generic versions of trademarked regimens under a different name.
See the chart above for a quick comparison of some of the more recent common and popular workout regimens you can choose from, and continue reading for more details about each program.

Check out the social media pages of these programs on Facebook and Instagram. Many also have extensive videos on YouTube. Many gyms will offer generic versions of these programs at differing levels of quality, and many gyms also offer a free trial class for you to test a program out. Prices vary from location to location and country to country. There are countless regimens, spinoffs, and generic versions of the above programs, as well as many other popular forms of exercise, that we could not cover here; for example, TangoLates, Cardio Kickboxing, Hooping, and pole dancing. Additionally, there are many traditional forms of exercise and sport still popular today, such as Tai Chi, soccer, volleyball, and basketball, all of which are worth considering. As always, if you are pregnant, have any illness or injury, or have any other conditions that might limit you in commencing an exercise program, seek professional support and advice. Remember, too, that calorie count and physiological response to exercise are also subject to variances due to age, gender, weight, fitness levels, lean mass, and a range of other factors.
