Barre

Оглавление

Barre is a total body workout that utilizes the ballet barre as balance tool to do mostly bodyweight exercises that are derived from ballet, yoga, and Pilates. In a typical barre class, you will start with a sequence of warm-ups and upper body exercises before moving to the barre, using your own bodyweight to focus on leg, hip, and core stabilizers, before ending in a cool-down stretching and recovery phase. The hour-long classes are intense, more advanced, and more strength-oriented than you may realize. Calorie expenditure is estimated to be 300 to 500 per class. Barre has a lower risk of injury, as it is mostly low impact.

There are several studio chains out there, including Pure Barre, Physique 57, The Bar Method, and Core Fusion. Most offer DVDs, equipment, and exercise apparel, in addition to online classes. Prices vary, though barre is more expensive than most classes. You may find it rigid and boring, especially if you do not have a background or interest in dance. In theory, it can be done at home, though this can be difficult without a barre.
