Die UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law) ist eine 1966 gegründete Unterorganisation der UN mit Sitz in Wien. Zu den wichtigsten Zielen gehört die Vereinheitlichung des internationalen Handelsrechts. Der UNCITRAL gehören 60 Staaten an (dies ist von der Zahl her fast identisch mit dem UNIDROIT (63 Staaten; dazu sogleich), jedoch ist die Zusammensetzung anders). Die UNCITRAL sammelt Entscheidungen nationaler Gerichte (und Schiedsgerichte) zu entsprechenden Übereinkommen und hält Informationen über solche Entscheidungen im Internet (www.uncitral.org) bereit. Daneben arbeitet die UNCITRAL an einer Fortbildung bzw. Vereinheitlichung des internationalen Rechts, insbesondere in folgenden Bereichen:

Die verschiedenen Texte können auf der Website (www.uncitral.org bzw. www.uncitral.un.org) abgerufen werden; der Status ist ganz unterschiedlich – es gibt jedoch ein stets aktuelles Dokument mit einer Übersicht in Tabellenform zu den 20 bedeutendsten Abkommen,56 eine Vielzahl von Texten ist wohl ohne Rechtswirkung geblieben – die relevanten Texte werden nachfolgend beim entsprechenden Thema nochmals erläutert. Für Deutschland „gelten“ (nur) das UN-Übereinkommen von 1958 zur Anerkennung und Vollstreckung von Schiedssprüchen (siehe unten Kap. D), das UNCITRAL Model Law on Commercial Arbitration (siehe unten Rn. 355 und Kap. D) und das UN-Kaufrechtsabkommen – CISG (siehe unten Kap. E).
